Mother’s Day is a day meant to honor mothers and motherhood. This date has been recognized in special ways for thousands of years. This heartwarming occasion is celebrated on various days in several parts of the world. On this special day, family members present their mother with flowers, candies, cards, and other tokens of appreciation. Mother’s Day is celebrated around the world to honor their mother for her love and sacrifice. Mother’s Day, popularly known as Mothering in UK is celebrated around the world to honor all mothers and to express gratitude and generosity of spirit. Even though different countries celebrate Mother’s Day on different dates and with different customs the Love and affection behind the celebration remains the same everywhere.
Origin of Mother's Day
The earliest tribute to mothers dates back to the annual spring celebration of Greeks and Romans. The present Mother’s Day celebration first started in UK during the 17th century. The event was celebrated as Mothering Sunday throughout the country. Today the traditional Mothering Sunday is popularly known as Mother’s Day in the UK. In the US, Mother’s Day started nearly 150 years ago when Anna Jarvis, an Appalachian homemaker organized a day to raise awareness on poor health conditions. She believed that organizing a camp for mothers is a great idea to solve health related problems and she called it Mother’s Work Day. Later, in 1872, Julia Ward Howe of USA came up with the idea of an International Mother’s Day. Should be “Gradually Mother’s Day celebration spread to most of the countries.
Ways to Celebrate Mother's Day
Mother’s Day is celebrated with great enthusiasm. On this special day children pay tribute to their beloved mothers for the love and support provided by her. Children surprise their mothers by serving yummy breakfast in bed. Some of them prefer to arrange family get-togethers to make their mothers feel like the special lady in their lives. Those who stay far away visit their mothers on this day and spend the entire day with her. They also get cakes, flower bouquets and present it to their moms.
