In Philippines, Father’s Day is a recent development which is observed on 3rd Sunday of June. There was no mark of Father’s Day in Philippines during 1960s and 1970s. The Father’s Day celebration came to Philippines in 1980s under the influence of American holidays and celebrations. The idea of observing the day in the honor of fathers began in Spokane, Washington. As per the records, a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd thought of the idea for Father’s Day while listening to the Mother’s Day lecture in 1909. Sonora wanted to celebrate the day in the honor of his father, William Smart, who brought her up single handedly. The Father’s Day was recognized by a Joint Resolution of Congress in 1956. Later in 1972, President Richard Nixon announced a yearly Father’s Day celebration.
