Mother's Day in United States

Origin and History of Mother's Day in United States

Mother’s Day was inspired by the British day in USA. It was first suggested by social activist Julia Ward Howe after the American Civil War. In the year 1870, Julia attempted to issue a manifesto for peace at the international peace conferences in London and Paris. Anna believed that mothers deserve a special day for themselves which would help in building bondage among the family members. President Woodrow Wilson issued the first proclamation in the year 1914. Hence second Sunday in May was declared as an official U.S. holiday.
